Universal Android Pumpkin Car Stereo Review

I recently wrote about analyzing minivan prices with R. The other effect of our family purchasing a minivan was that I inherited my wife’s 2008 Ford Fusion, a fine vehicle, but one from an era before Bluetooth and other modern conveniences. I decided that while I was happy to drive a car with a few miles on it, I was not satisfied with the outdated stock stereo. I ended up purchasing a Pumpkin Quad Core 7 inch 2 DIN Universal Android 4.

Nexus 5X Review

After two mostly great years with the original Nexus 5, I’ve taken the plunge and picked up a Nexus 5X. I enjoy the Nexus line because I love the customization and affordability of Android, but with Nexus, I’m less beholden to carriers when it comes to bloatware on the phone and waiting for the latest version of Android to be available for my phone. Like many Nexus owners, I decided to take a pass with last year’s Nexus 6 due to the cost and large size.

Review: Dell Computer E2414Hx 24.0-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor

In a variety of settings, I’ve started working with multiple monitors more regularly, and I’m finding myself rather addicted to it. Not too long ago, I decided, my blog cave needed a second monitor. However, it was something I wanted to do on a budget. I didn’t need a 4K quality monitor, just something to give me extra room to work with. What I settled on was the Dell E2414Hx 24 inch LED monitor.

Review: Amazon Basics Wireless Mouse with Nano Receiver (Black)

I recently picked up an Amazon Basics Wireless Mouse and wanted to do a quick review, and given how quick and easy it was to use, it will be a quick review, indeed. I primarily use this mouse with a MacBook Air Retina. While I’ve been very please with my introduction to the world of OS X, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to just using a touchpad, regardless of the operating system, and I wanted an affordable mouse with no extra bells and whistles.

OBi202 VOIP Review

Click here to get the OBi202 on Amazon with FREE shipping. The OBi202 allows free calls via Google Voice As my previous couple of posts have explained, I recently came up against the problem of having to choose between bad cell phone service in my home or bad service on my daily commute, depending on which provider I went with. The way I decided to remedy the problem was by porting my number to Google Voice.

Porting My Cell Number to Google Voice

Why You’d Want to Port Your Number to Google Voice As I described in my previous post, A Plan to Deal with Bad Cell Phone Reception, a new commute recently forced me to deal with the fact that there was no single cell phone provider that offered both good service at my house and on my daily drive to work. The solution I came up with was to use Google Voice in order to have Google ring both my cell phone and a new VOIP Obi 202 phone line simultaneously.

A Plan to Deal with Bad Cell Reception

As I mentioned in a recent post, about a month ago, I made a big career change. Consequently, I’ve gone from a daily commute of 15 minutes to one of 45 minutes. My biggest frustration with the longer drive? My cell phone reception along the interstate has been spotty at best. I left cell phone contracts over a year ago and made the jump to the MVNO Straight Talk when I purchased a Nexus 5.

Dell Venue 8 Pro Review

About two months ago, I made a major change. After a couple of years of using an iPad 2 as my daily tablet driver, I switched to a Windows 8 tablet, the Dell Venue 8 Pro. This was a big change in many respects. Instead of iOS, I now had Windows 8.1. Instead of a 10-inch screen, I had an 8-inch screen. Instead of being in a completely touch driven environment, I was now in one designed to be as much at ease with a mouse and keyboard as with touch.

Dell Venue 8 Pro Unboxing Video

I actually shot this unboxing video for my new Dell Venue 8 Pro a little over a week ago, but this is the first chance I’ve had to post it. My impressions are mostly favorable, but I’ll tell you that there are definitely some adjustments making two jumps at one time, first from iOS to WIndows 8.1 and second from a 10 inch tablet to an 8 inch device. In retrospect, it probably would have been easier to only make one jump at a time.

FreedomPop Review

I’ve been intrigued by FreedomPop, a provider of free 4G hotspot data, for some time now. I’ve wanted a mobile hotspot for a while, but most of the plans from the big providers I’ve looked at like Verizon and Sprint just seemed too pricey for what my needs. I simply need a bare bones plan in the 500 MB-1GB range for on the go data emergencies with my computer or tablet.
