Universal Android Pumpkin Car Stereo Review

I recently wrote about analyzing minivan prices with R. The other effect of our family purchasing a minivan was that I inherited my wife’s 2008 Ford Fusion, a fine vehicle, but one from an era before Bluetooth and other modern conveniences. I decided that while I was happy to drive a car with a few miles on it, I was not satisfied with the outdated stock stereo. I ended up purchasing a Pumpkin Quad Core 7 inch 2 DIN Universal Android 4.

Galloping Ghost Arcade Review

The Galloping Ghost arcade in Brookfield, Illinois Last Friday, a college buddy Jim and I made a pilgrimage to Brookfield to the Galloping Ghost Arcade. This is a little outside the sphere of what I usually write about, as this tech does not relate to mathematics or education, and it’s not even particularly new or “gadgety”, but I had such a great time that I’m going to indulge myself. I’m far from a hardcore gamer, but I’ve always been interested in games.

Reminiscing at the Illinois State Math Team Championships

A packed house prepares for a big day of competition and camaraderie A little over a week ago, the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics held their annual state championship finals on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus. For the first time since I left teaching mid-year during the 2014-15 school year, I was able to attend, having missed last year for a family engagement. What a joy to be back on the campus of my alma mater, the place where I first learned that satisfaction could be found in solving challenging mathematical problems, once again watching young people take their first steps into that same world of ideas, competing with their friends, making lifelong memories.

TI-84 Plus CE Golden Ratio and TI-84 Plus CE Bright White

As if the TI-84 Plus CE didn’t have enough cool, stylish colors to begin with, there will soon be two new attractive colors available in the 84 Plus CE family, the Golden Ratio and Bright White. The Golden Ratio, is a limited edition, shiny, metallic gold finish, and Bright White is the “sleek” white that its name implies. “For us, it’s about providing the educational tools and resources to help students build a strong foundation in math and science, setting them up for success in the classroom, college, and beyond,” said Peter Balyta, Ph.

Book Review: Bedtime Math–A Fun Excuse to Stay up Late Review

Fresh off her 5th birthday, my oldest daughter has continued to be very interested in books at bedtime. She has also been showing an increasing interest in numbers: counting anything and everything, flash cards, and number apps on her Kindle Fire. Of course, I find this budding interest in math delightful, and while I don’t want to smother it, I have kept my ears pricked for ways to encourage her further.

TI-84 Plus Review

Click here to see the TI-84 Plus price on eBay. Long ago and far away (in the year 2010), I did a review of the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition graphing calculator. Things have changed quite a bit during that time for Texas Instruments calculators in general and for the TI-84 Plus platform in specific. Most importantly, TI released a major new upgrade to the TI-84 Plus family, the TI-84 Plus CE, a full color display edition of the calculator designed to bring the TI-84 Plus into the next decade.

TI-Nspire NASA Activity Fuel for the Fire Launches Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Texas Instruments will add to mISSion imaginaTIon, their partnership with NASA, when they launch a new activity called “Fuel for the Fire.” TI was nice enough to give me an early preview of the Fuel for the Fire, including student and teacher handouts and the .tns file for the Nspire that makes up the bulk of the activity. This is a really rich activity that will force students to think, and offers some interesting simulations.

TI-Nspire CX OS 4.2 Released

TI-Nspire CX OS 4.2 has been released on the Texas Instruments website. You can find the release notes on the TI website. There are a few cool new features in this release, including the ability to automatically generate sliders for certain parameters in graphs and notes, manage the settings of connected handhelds through TI-Navigator (this will be very useful for teachers that work with inexperienced Nspire students), and a few other selected upgrades.

ACT and SAT Scores by State Map

The below map can be used to explore ACT scores by state from 2004-2015 for all 50 US states across all subscores, composite scores, as well as percentage of students tested in a given state. Similar data is available for SAT scores by state from 2011-2014. I will add more data as it becomes available. The plot is hoverable, zoomable, and scroll-able. You can also save any plot you create during your exploration as a .
