Apple and Texas Instruments to Form Alliance

Update: Much to my surprise, this April Fools joke came true just a year after I wrote this with the release of the TI-Nspire iPad app. I’m getting word from a source at Texas Instruments that within the next 24 to 48 hours we can expect to hear an official announcement of a blockbuster alliance being formed with Texas Instruments and Apple. Both companies are going to get significant penetration into an area of the market they previously didn’t have access to.

Infographic: NCTM vs. NSTA

In honor of the start of the NSTA convention in Indianapolis, I created an infographic of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Twitter account vs. the National Science Teachers Association Twitter account. Of course, math and science are peas from the same pod, not competitors, so it’s all in good fun. It’s actually interesting to see that there are a lot of similarities between the two accounts. If you’d like to add this infographic to your website or blog, please use the embed code at the bottom of this post.

March Contest: Win a TI-Nspire (CONTEST OVER)

UPDATE: The contest has ended. The winner was John Carroz of Bellevue, WA. Congratulations, John! To enter, the TI-Nspire contest page on Tech Powered Math’s Facebook page. Back when I did the Math Blaster giveaway, I promised everyone I was going to make an effort to do more contest giveaways. Today, I’m continuing what I hope will become a monthly trend. TI-Nspire: No Repairs Needed

Is your TI-Nspire beyond repair? Click here to check prices on a new or used TI-Nspire on Ebay. A former student of mine missed school last Friday and came back with a pretty crazy picture. Apparently, she was in a pretty horrific car accident where her car flipped twice. As you can see in the picture, it wasn’t a pretty picture. Fortunately, she walked away as she had no major injuries, and she only missed a day of school.

Lua Scripting Demo on TI-Nspire 3.2

As I mentioned in my previous post, TI-Nspire 3.2 has Lua scripting support. While I’m no programming guru (pretty much limited to GW-Basic and Fortran), I know there are a lot of people who will be excited about the opportunity to program with Lua for the Nspire. There are also a lot of people like myself who will be interested in using what others develop. Video demo follows. The first 10 seconds or so are pretty shaky (sorry), but if you hang in there, it gets better fast.

New iPad Announcement

The much awaited iPad 3 was announced today, but apparently it’s not called iPad 3 after all. Instead, it’s the ” new iPad.” Apple seems to want to break with the practice of incremental numbering of their iPads. I can understand the logic (do we really want to talk about the iPad 11 down the road?) but still hope there’ll be a simple way to keep the generations straight going forward.
