I’ve talked about it for a long time, run into many delays along the way, but I finally have found my way around to releasing my DVD on the TI-Nspire! Sticking with the same theme as the my TI-Nspire books, it’s called TI-Nspire Tutorials. Much like the books, I’ve aimed it at beginning to intermediate users of the TI-Nspire.
I’m really excited about what users can learn from the DVD. The run time is almost two and half hours and is broken into three parts. In the first lesson, the longest one (almost an hour), the tutorials introduce the viewer to the TI-Nspire environment, showing them all of the different types of windows the Nspire has, how to use calculator features, graph, open multiple tabs, and save your work. I also touch on the other Nspire windows such as dynamic graphing, spreadsheets, and data & statistics. It’s a very thorough overview of the basics, and you’ll come away from it understanding how to navigate your way around the Nspire even if you’ve never even turned one on before.
In the second lesson, I dive into the TI-Nspire CAS features. If you have a CAS version of the Nspire, these tutorials will show you how to use its Computer Algebra System, or its ability to manipulate the variables. I start with features as basic as factoring and expanding binomials and work towards more advanced calculus features.
The final lesson, which is about 30 minutes long, is aimed at teachers. I know when I was first getting started with the TI-Nspire, I was impressed with how powerful it was, but I was still looking for ideas on how to use it in lessons. In the last set of tutorials, I present several activities that I would do with my students in an Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II settings. With these activities, I’ve included links to files I’ve stored here at Tech Powered Math that you can download for your Nspire to follow along with the DVD or try out with your own students.
In the past, when I’ve offered a new Kindle book, I’ve given it away to Tech Powered Math readers for free for the first couple of days as a thank you for following my site. As much as I’d like to give you all a free DVD, there are actually costs that go along with a physical DVD, so I can’t make it free. Instead, to kick off the release of the DVD, from now through Cyber Monday (December 2, 2013), I’ve got the DVD priced at 50% off on Amazon. It’s $9.99 instead of the usual $19.99.
If you have just recently jumped on the TI-Nspire bandwagon and are still struggling to get started, this could be a good way to jump start your teaching or learning with the TI-Nspire. I would also suggest that at $10, my DVD could make a great stocking stuffer, or for you department chairs, an addition to your math department library for new hires.
