Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Math Textbook iPad Apps Review

Back in April, I attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual meeting in Indianapolis. In addition to taking in a number of professional development sessions, I was able to spend significant time on the exhibition floor, checking out the best of what math education products are just out and soon to be released. One of the most exciting technologies I saw was the new Houghton Mifflin Harcourt,  math textbooks for the iPad.

TI-Nspire CX CAS Shipping Update

Quick update on the TI-Nspire CX CAS, as I know a lot of you are waiting to hear more on the release date for the CAS version. I actually pre-ordered mine from the Bach Company back in April at the annual NCTM meeting. I hadn’t received mine yet, so last Friday, I contacted the Bach Company to see what the latest was and promptly received this update: We just received word this morning that TI is shipping the new CX CAS this week.

Wolfram Alpha for iPad App Review

Not too long ago, I reviewed Mathematica 8 from a novice’s perspective. About that time it started becoming clear that,Wolfram, maker of Mathematica, was starting to get interested in app development. Their first major app was an iOS version of Wolfram Alpha, available on both the iPhone and iPad as well as Android. If you haven’t seen it yet, Casio recently launched a Guided Tours site for the Casio Prizm. On this site, you’ll find about 10 videos guiding you through the basics of the Casio Prizm, including most of the icons that an average user will utilize. The amazing TI-36X Pro is now available for sale on Amazon Click here to see Amazon’s best price on this great calculator . A couple of months ago, I was flipping through a math teacher supply catalogue, looking at the pictures of the new TI-Nspire CX and Casio Prizm, when something caught my eye. It was an add for a scientific calculator that I had never seen. “TI-36X Pro Scientifc Calculator with calculus, available soon,” read the headline.

TI-Nspire CX Released on Amazon

I’ve been religiously checking ever day for the last several weeks to see if the TI-Nspire CX is listed on Amazon. Until today, the pattern was always the same. Search for “TI-Nspire CX,” autocomplete beating me to the punch before the first few letters are out (making me thing many others are doing the same), and then the same 5 or 6 products, none of them the TI-Nspire CX.  Today, it was different.
